I'm with you. We have DOT cameras on practically every corner in the city and on several intersections in outlying areas.http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/mycommute/index.cfm In fact we have them all over the state. wsdot.wa.gov They are there to monitor traffic congestion and delays. I don't think that they are used regularly by police for traffic violation enforcement, but they are monitoring all aspects of the flow of traffic. If a person steals a car these cameras are used to show his route so that law enforcement can.....and do......track and apprehend. I can go online to view an area of congestion and determine whether or not I wish to use that route when I travel. I don't get the objection or the "big brother" aspect because cameras are every where any way and everyone knows it. We're all being watched when we travel by car. If one ticket can result in a person taking more care while driving....and avoiding an accident.......it makes it very worthwhile imo. I think the objection is being caught in the act and having to pay the fine.

Laws should either be enforced or taken off the books so I can only applaud more effective and efficient enforcement f your issue is that red light running shouldn't be illegal, that I could at least understand. But there the constraint is with the law, not the camera that enforces the law. For example, speed cameras. While I may not run red lights, I do speed. I drive sometimes on the beltway and the beltway, when not jammed up, runs a good twenty mph over the speed limit. Recognizing that the safest speed for me to drive is the speed of the rest of traffic, I speed right along with the pack. If they installed cameras to catch me, my issue wouldn't be with the cameras, although they're the most available target, but with the law, the ridiculous speed limit. Laws should be enforced or taken off the books. That doesn't mean that I would applaud or even support aggressive enforcement of silly or even ridiculous laws while they still are on the books. Tim
