Mary,

Let me be crystal clear. Al the PC stuff about profiling is just crap - it assumes that the only criteria is demographic.

If I was looking at a cleaned up John Lindh on demographics alone it would fail. If however I had knowledge of his travel to Afghanistan and Pakistan, conversion to radical Islam and training - I might pick him out despite his fair skin.

Proper profiling looks at all of this and prevents us from having to search 100%. And I will readily admit it will not catch a blond blue eyed kid from Kansas (who never left Kansas) recruited by radicals.

But whats the likelihood of that vs existing populations of radicals?

So if your a ME male who has travelled to Afghanistan or Pakistan - your going to get searched a lot more often than a Lebanese American who has never left the country. The Lebanese American will get looked at more than a 65 year old nordic lady because he could be a Taliban or Al Queda terrorist under an assumed name.

Whoever said life was fair?

John
