congrats on beating ticket. last time i went to court to beat a traffic ticket. the judge was having coffee and donuts with his state troopers. They let a real estate lady go her cop didn't show up.. she was so happy she yelled out.. tg it was my third speeding ticket it would have been loss of license.

me i got caught on open highway at 5am in morning doing 70mph on way down to wash. d.c. for meeting in fairfax that morning from Philly.

Judge says to me , i know why your here, my boys (state troopers) do good work in controlling traffic in this area. so he tells me i want my speed reduced,(no i wanted cop not to show up and ticket cancelled) , so he knocks off eight miles and asks how i plead.. GUILTY... i said and got out of there. You think i was going to try to defend myself against the judges boys?

Could you say, "I guess I'm guilty, BUT with an explanation"....

For a rolling stop at a stop sign ticket I received, I did plead "guilty with an explanation" and after the judge stopped laughing at my explanation (I used some of his words when he started court that morning, and I was first case and remembered them)....he gave me 1/2 the fine and told me not to do that again. Yessssss sir.

I assume you also have the right to plead "not guilty" but not sure whether the burden of proof is "beyond a reasonable doubt" (criminal) or "preponderance of the evidence" (civil). No way can they who's driving.

I think the burden might actually have been considered "preponderance of the evidence" because there was no points, but IMO if you pay a fine you are facing a criminal penalty so it should be "beyond a reasonable doubt". Of course unless they also get a picture of the driver, or perhaps have witnesses, there is no way they can meet that standard.
