So a teacher in Newport Beach ought to make four times as more as a teacher in Compton just because of comparative living costs? No, I didn't say that. I said any teacher in CA......at least along the coast from SFO to San Diego needs to be making more than $50K just to survive. Here are what were 1997 starting salaries in CA.......please note how far down the list teachers are......btw their 4 year college education at a private school cost as much as yours did:sd.znet.com If anything, it should be the other way around. Then again, King Drew Medical Center in South Central is among the worst hospitals in the nation, even though it is very well funded and some of its employees are among the highest paid in LA County. Another example of throwing money at a problem. Its interesting how King Drew has become your latest whipping boy. I suspect its your cause celebre for how financially incompetent liberals are. However, I have to ask...........have you ever been in a ghetto hospital? Do you have any clue as to how dangerous it is to work in such a place? How much trauma that place sees in one nite? No, you don't.......that's because you live in a cushy OC suburb. Very few new doctors want to work at King Drew.......they'd rather work at Cedars in West LA. And that's because working at King Drew sucks and LA is lucky professional people are even willing to work in such an environment. And please don't tell me you grew up in a barrio.......because if you did, your memory is very short.I made that much when I first got out of school. I don't know what you're expecting as a "comfortable living wage" or what you did when you got out of college, but $50K/year starting out is very good for someone with a Bachelor's degree. Heck, it's not bad for someone with a Master's as well. I thought that was the average teacher's salary in CA. So then you are telling me that teachers salaries in CA have doubled since 1997? I find that very hard to believe given the 1997 list up above. ted
