China sees 2005 domestic vehicle output at 5.83 mln units, up 15 pct

BEIJING (AFX)- China's vehicle production is expected to reach 5.83 mln units this year, up 15 pct from 2004, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing a forecast by the Ministry of Commerce.

The ministry also said that domestic demand for vehicles will hit 5.75 mln units this year, up 12 pct from 2004, according to Xinhua.

The ministry expects domestic auto prices to steadily edge down as a result of tougher competition, cancellation of auto imports quota, decreasing tarrifs, the currency revaluation and surging fuel prices.
