They used to be lenient with first offense DWI but the legislature keeps making things tougher, and I think that's a good thing, overall. As a former drunk who had a couple of DWI's, I am all for them cracking down. As far as I am concerned, they can set on the corner by the local bar and pull them out of their cars. I didn't get serious and get rid of the problem until I faced losing my license.
