They used to be lenient with first offense DWI but the legislature keeps making things tougher, and I think that's a good thing, overall.

As a former drunk who had a couple of DWI's, I am all for them cracking down. As far as I am concerned, they can set on the corner by the local bar and pull them out of their cars.

I didn't get serious and get rid of the problem until I faced losing my license.

Totally agree with "depends on the crime"...For DWI's they should make the person go to classes for some time, be heavily fined, and be sentenced to community service helping someone who has been the victim of a DWI driver ... For a 2nd offense, jail for awhile, heavier fine, and 1+year of community service...If any more, three strikes, yer' out!
