No, teachers' pay is low because most teachers are paid by the taxes of the public, and though much of the public has a problem with tenure, the public would have much more of a problem if they were paying teachers six figure salaries.


Actually, Elroy is right on this one. Briefly, its a law in economics that when supply is high, salaries are low and visa versa. Its a little more complicated than that but not by much. The reason that ball players make so much money is because demand is high but the supply is low........not enough top of the line athletes.......while people are willing to pay top dollar to see them play. Decent seats at Safeco Field are $40 to watch the in-the-cellar Mariners play baseball. Tickets for the Seahawks are even higher because there is greater scarcity......they only play once per week. Supply and demand often are what dictate salaries......just like with the price of goods. Seattle universities alone are producing nearly 500 teachers per year.......that's why I am going for my Masters.........to get a better shot at getting hired.
