Some repugnant thoughts from the left:

the destruction of Fallujah and the deaths of (literally) uncounted thousands of civilians was not his handiwork. It was a war crime committed by soldiers and marines, many of whom undoubtedly looked into the eyes of innocent people before they murdered them.

12. The US deliberately targets civilians as well. Learn your facts.

30. that's because the U.S. military invasion, occupation, and...
...barbaric behavior in Iraq is the CAUSE of these events. Moral equivalency my buttocks-- there's no equivalency between committing a war of aggression-- and brutalizing a civilian population-- and defending AGAINST those invaders.

Station returns to music, local news

Horseshoe Club

Hold the phone. KTHO-AM 590 returned Monday to its musical roots of Barbara Streisand and Petula Clark - but with a new twist.

Air America is out, and local news is in. The South Lake Tahoe radio station plans to beef up its news offering by hiring a reporter to hit the streets, gathering community news. News director Larry Kay hired Jeff Grice of KRKC in King City to come on board Aug. 15.

The station previously aired political and sports talk shows. It will continue to broadcast Oakland A's baseball games.

Grice described coming to work here as a dream come true. He admits that a radio news beat is a dying breed in the industry, but it's a post he enjoys the most. He estimates spending up to 40 percent of his time on the street.

"I really want to get involved with the community," Grice said.

Local news will be featured at :25 and :55 every hour. A CNN break-in will be reduced to two minutes at the top of the hour, and news headlines will be aired at :15 and :45.

General Manager Stan Koplowitz called the local news emphasis "the hub in the entire wheel" to accompany a music format called "memories" of the 1960s and 1970s. Koplowitz, who joined the Live Wire Media-owned station in April, said he asked business leaders what they wanted to see from the station. More local news came up over and over.

"We're going with what we feel the market needs and wants. The market is so small. There's not enough population to support two talk radio stations," he said. "This will be nothing like KOWL. We'll have live (local) news reports."

KTHO underwent a number of alterations in format and ownership - including a dispute between the owner and manager in October 2000 resulting in the station going off the air for a year, to the facility almost selling on eBay before a Live Wire Media investor bought it a year ago.

The staff of Cherry Creek Radio's two South Shore stations - KOWL-AM 1490 and KRLT-FM 93.9 - say bring on the competition.

The latter is bringing on a blues show on Friday nights at 7 p.m. starting this week.

Justin Wright, who shares morning drive with longtime Tahoe entertainer Howie Nave, said changes in the industry come with the territory. He's been on and off the air a few times.

"You have to roll with the punches in a small market," Wright said.

Betsy Miller, the general manager since last January, agreed.

"I think change is good. Maybe there is a place for local (radio) news here, but they're going to have to do it well," she said.

So by losing, they are really winning? I see it now!

Dean Email: Proof Out 50 State Strategy Works
Democrat Party ^ | 8/4/2005 |

Dear Chuck,

Your mandate to fight everywhere had its first test last night.

Marine Major Paul Hackett ran for Congress in a special election in the most Republican district in Ohio. Republicans vowed to "bury" him, pundits wrote him off, and the conventional wisdom asked why Democrats would even bother to put up a fight.

But then something happened. With the infrastructure of local organizers we're building in Ohio and every other state, the most Republican district in Ohio became the most competitive district in Ohio -- a district where Bush won in 2004 by a margin of two to one. We energized thousands of grassroots volunteers and small donors in Ohio and across the country. We made our stand and we fought.

No, Paul Hackett didn't get elected to Congress yesterday. But he received 48.2 percent of the vote in a district where the Democratic candidate received only half that in the last four elections.

The formula is simple. Paul Hackett didn't apologize for being a Democrat, didn't hold back from criticizing a president who has failed to lead in Iraq and at home, and took a strong Democratic message into the heart of a Republican stronghold.

This district used to be written off. Now we have a network of Democrats, independents, and sensible Republicans who are tired of the out-of-touch Republican leadership and its culture of corruption. It proves that we can compete everywhere -- if we show up and fight, and give people a real choice.

This unprecedented result shows that Americans are hungry for change. In the words of one political analyst, Hackett's performance in supposedly safe Republican district means that something is "very, very wrong" for Republicans in 2006.

That's absolutely true. It also means that something is very, very right with our democracy.

For too long, we have conceded huge pieces of this country to the Republicans. No more. When we roll up our sleeves and fight we can compete everywhere -- and we will.

We're just getting started. We have moved people and resources into 25 states so far, and we are on our way into the next 25. We're building a permanent infrastructure to organize and build the Democratic base in every single precinct in the country -- an operation that will not disappear after a single election.

This effort is unprecedented and will fundamentally change the way our party does business. But the only way to do this building the community of people who have Democracy Bonds. A Democracy Bond is a commitment to give a small amount every month to build and sustain the Democratic Party everywhere.

Thousands of people have made the commitment already and are using tools on Democrats.org to grow the community and track their progress. If you want to fight everywhere, now is the time to join the Democracy Bonds community:

democrats.org

Thank you for everything you do.

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

Air America and the Race Hustlers
Frong Page Magazine ^ | 04 August 2005 | Michelle Malkin

Where are they? Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are the supermen of the civil rights establishment -- able to leap tall buildings in a single bound to get in front of a picket line. When victim politics calls, the demagogic duo leap into patented action: March. Boycott. Shakedown. Repeat.

But the raging reverends are nowhere to be found as a scandal involving the liberal radio network Air America and a Bronx, N.Y.-based inner city charity for poor children brews. Why the silence?

It's all about the Benjamins, as they say.

First, a summary of the financial fiasco that the liberal media won't touch: The New York City Department of Investigation has been probing allegations that officials of the nonprofit Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club and one of its affiliates, Pathways for Youth, approved "significant inappropriate transactions and falsified documents that were submitted to various city agencies." The charities receive large portions of their budgets from local, state and federal government grants. At the center of the controversy is Evan Montvel Cohen, the disgraced former chairman of Air America, who was in charge of the liberal radio network at the same time he was serving as Gloria Wise's director of development.

The New York Sun's David Lombino reported this week that Cohen received more than $800,000 in loans for himself and Air America during his tenure, according to Gloria Wise executive committee President Jeannette Graves. Graves alleges that Cohen funneled $613,000 to himself and Air America without her authorization or knowledge. Other loans were approved by the Gloria Wise executive committee when Cohen claimed he needed money to cover medical expenses for himself and his father. As a result of an ongoing investigation, the city canceled its contracts with both Gloria Wise and Pathways in June -- causing a near-shutdown of services to poor minority kids, Alzheimer's patients, and other underprivileged clients until other nonprofit agencies were brought in to take over the old management.

Air America's ever-evolving statements about the controversy have raised more questions than they've answered. After radio industry blogger Brian Maloney (radioequalizer.blogspot.com) called attention to the probe last week, the liberal radio network initially shrugged off corporate responsibility by asserting that its current management, Piquant LLC, "had no involvement whatsoever" with the funds and was "not being investigated." A follow-up statement then revealed that Air America "agreed months ago to fully compensate" Gloria Wise for the loan (despite having "no involvement" with it). Yesterday, Air America host Al Franken acknowledged that Piquant had conducted an internal probe of the matter before the city got involved -- and, according to the city, failed to tell authorities about it.

If a conservative radio network had been entangled in a scam to steal from black children to line the pockets of wealthy white con artists, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would already be staging hunger strikes in protest. But both have hefty political and financial stakes in Air America's success -- and the big mouths aren't about to badmouth their friends.

Air America's flagship New York City station is housed on Park Avenue at WLIB-AM, owned by Inner City Broadcasting. The company shunted aside its black-themed talk format at WLIB to accommodate Air America. In return, Air America made room for a few minority radio hosts and also entered into lucrative lease management agreements with Inner City Broadcasting, which owns and operates 17 radio stations in five markets.

The co-founder of Inner City Broadcasting is New York media mogul Percy Sutton, best known as Malcolm X's lawyer and former Manhattan borough council president. Sutton helped bail Sharpton out after Sharpton was ordered to pay former Dutchess County prosecutor Steven Pagones over the Tawana Brawley race hoax. Sutton also raised and donated money for Sharpton's 2004 presidential bid. Sharpton still broadcasts a Sunday radio show on WLIB. Sutton and Jackson are longtime friends and partners. Sutton served as Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign finance chairman. Jackson has lobbied on Sutton's behalf. Sutton sits on Jackson's Citizenship Education Fund. As original investors, Jackson and his wife reportedly hold more than 23,000 shares in Inner City Broadcasting.

Now you know why there will be no boycotts at Air America headquarters over the possible bilking of poor Bronx children. Race hustlers care about only one color: green.
