It seems likely that mankind split away from the Middle East and trekked east to Australia and the Americas before domestication of any wild animal other than dogs, but not so Africa. After all, we came from Africa, so lack of time and patience doesn't explain why no domestic animals in sub-Saharan Africa.

One thing you have to do with domestic animals is feed them, so lack of agricultural surplus may be a good explanation.

Middle-East style agriculture with irrigation doesn't seem to translate well to sub-Saharan Africa. I think the climate is too humid to grow and store grains.

They might be able to grow rice, they're working on figuring that out. Have to do something about the mosquitoes and the water-borne parasites is my guess.
