Hi Gush,

There's been a lot of buying of the Aug 55 calls today, suggesting to me that they are expecting an upside surprise.

On the downside, TSO has ramped up somewhat going into earnings.

Reuters expects $2.38, Zacks $2.47.

If you play this one with options, I would watch the open interest because it looks to me like there's a lot of speculators jumping into this issue who are likely to bail earlier rather than later.

I remember you posted this chart a while back, and as I recall it looked very good then. It looks even better now. BBs are contracted, of course, but look at that trend in relative strength compared to the SPX....

139.142.147.218

And now you've got a breakout from a 6-week trading range that has seen TSO consolidate nicely at a new all-time high. So you've got a blue-sky breakout here.

My only concern is that TSO has sometimes snapped back rather sharply to the 20 ema when it has gotten to far ahead of itself. Look at what happened in July of last year for example:

139.142.147.218

But all-in-all, TSO is a strong stock that is getting stronger and is in an excellent sector and has been in a strong uptrend for years now. This is one of those stocks you can just buy and forget about for a while I think.

Should have seen this one.... check out the BBs.

NAPS:

139.142.147.19

Now they blew out earnings after the close, so that uper BB rail is gonna get pushed open.

This one is still in play after big news:

RNAI:

139.142.147.19

Looks to me like the mo-mo boys aren't done with this one yet.

NAPS trades options, but RNAI doesn't.

TSO beat the street nicely:

Tesoro Petroleum beats by $0.18 (TSO) 50.65 : Reports Q2 (Jun) earnings of $2.65 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.18 better than the Reuters Estimates consensus of $2.47; revenues rose 27.8% year/year to $4.03 bln (vs. no consensus estimate).

So we have solid earnings growth in company that is in a solid sector. But the market was evidently underwhelmed; TSO lost about a percent today on very normal volume levels.

139.142.147.19

Hmmmmm..... we'll see what tomorrow brings, since today's candle is equivocal. But this is not a good omen, I'd say. When the market can't rally on excellent earnings news, well then the market can't rally.
