I agree, but obviously Stephen Segal had a problem with that and needed professional help to clean up his vocabulary. My Japanese is quite rusty and right now not very fluent as like 10 years ago. But as you point out, back then it didn't take me long to figure out most of the differences between the male and female language. Also I spent more time on picking up Italian and recently Spanish than maintaining my Japanese since then. After 5 years in a country with free access to the local population I would always expect the ability to handle the local language. Especially when being there on your own. Taro
