Bush's inept lack of planning has cost 2000 US lives in Iraq. By the time it's over there will be many more. There are also some 10,000 US troops maimed for life and Osama Bin Lauden and Al Qaida may be more powerful than ever.

Politically speaking, many troops (if they had to give you an answer) are rightwing leaning. Many others are the opposite. Most are not political at all.

The favorite music in Iraq is rap and heavy metal, not Christian or country. Many of the soldiers are cold stone killing athiests not Bible belters. Soldiers are by nature fighters and not political. They know they're being used by chickenhawk politicians (just as all soldiers are in every war), but they don't care because this is the stuff they like to do. They like to fire weapons, kill people and be a courageous team kicking butt and taking names. It's not their job to understand the complexities of politics.

They also follow each commander in chief with equal loyalty. Though they might have a lot more respect for Kerry since he was also a combat hero. Nine out of ten will tell you that. They know Bush is full of BS but they don't care. This is war and this is their job. However, most are burned out and would love to come home. Unfortunately Bush's FUBAR planning makes that impossible. The announcemtnof possible troops reductions the other day was dishonest. Only about 3% of Iraqi forces are ready to take our troops' places.

The soldier you talked to would undersatand my point of view completely unless he is some kind of a Bush worshipper. My viewpoint is much more realistic and honest than yours.
