I have the 2004 movie and soundtrack. I found the execution to be outstanding. I have not heard earlier versions. I have no formal training in music. But music can possess me and move me. In the end of this version the life long distorted heart of the phantom finds the true meaning of love is to give. That magic of metanoia was not illusionary.
