We went across the Puget Sound two weekends ago and found some hard smoked Salmon in a little store that tasted just like the smoked Salmon I used to eat when I was a little girl when my Dad was a commercial fisherman.

In those days, a man could go out from Seattle into the Puget Sound and find the waters just teeming with Salmon during the summer and fall spawning seasons.

He hired a Makah Indian boy from Neah Bay as his only crew member for a few seasons, and we would spend time there with the tribe watching, and helping them lay out the Salmon on their racks for smoking the old traditional way that they'd learned from past generations.

Funny how it only takes a little thing like that smoked Salmon to really bring back a flood of memories.
