local radio did a survey on profile this morning Local PBS station had an interview with an expert on terrorists this week. He made a couple of points that seem reasonable to me when questioned about US mass transit. 1) If the cops, etc., start looking at profiles this takes attention away from behavior, and behavior is the best predictor. 2) Random stops work because it discourages terrorist from recruiting people who don't fit profiles.

i figured non-whites for a start between ages of 12 and eighty, male. aclu can go to the courts and fight it like they are now. Easier said than done. Go to Grand central station. Go figure who is male and who is female. All non whites - that is a hoot. I can't see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson sitting quietly as you go on your merry profiling ways. Okay, okay, - you stop and search all Asians (including all Indians, Pakistanis, Indonesians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Mexicans, etc) - meanwhile there are nobody left to drive the cabs, livery cars, and work in the restaurants - for starters. While you are profiling and searching, dirty laundry will be piling up. What? Its going to take 1 1/2 hours to get your sushi delivered? Now you are going to get some very important upper east siders angry. Okay, okay, - keep searching. You are doing a good job. You are keeping us safe, even though we can't get our sushi delivered on time. Never mind that, but those Iranians with the Hermes bags are boarding tplanes and trains. They are not Iranians? Of course not, they are Pershians. Oh, Okay. But what about all those those Palestinians, they look a lot like many of my Israeli friends.
