Maybe the DOD recruiters need to go to mosques and community centers?

All they needed to do after 911 was find where the various Afghan immigrant groups were clustered here in the US, and get ahold of the "head man." He would have been able to line up several young men that spoke the language they needed and were willing to serve as translators on a CIA contract for a year.

I read a couple of accounts were our A-Teams went into Northern Afghanistan in October of 2001 without interpreters, and spent several weeks trying to convince the Northern Alliance leaders to let them lead the offense. If they had some of these young men along it would have gone so much better. They didn't need to be trained as soldiers. That is why I commented in my last post that the SF could have treated them like a piece of "equipment." They just needed the language and the stamina to keep up.

I don't know what our DOD types are doing now. But I would bet they are still not going at this in a smart way.

I do know the FBI is still klutzing it up. The revamped "counterterror" section is still giving no priority to putting Arabic/Paki/Iranian/etc speaking agents in that department or in charge. They are taking the normal "cop" type supervisors and giving them the jobs. The success they are having is due to their normal "full press" approach of assigning a ton of agents to the job. They are working hard instead of smart.
