Haley Infosys Technologies (Quote, Chart) today announced a major expansion in China in order strengthen its international presence and workforce. The IT consulting and outsourcing giant has earmarked $65 million over the next five years to build software development centers in Shanghai and Hangzhou. "Infosys follows a strategy of setting up world-class software development centers in locations where there is rich local talent, as well as the required infrastructure," James Lin, CEO and managing director of Infosys' China subsidiary, said in a statement. In addition to software development projects, the center will serve as a training and research center for Infosys, Lin added. Construction is expected to start by January and will include advanced infrastructure for software services and recreational facilities for employees. This is the second push into China for Infosys, but it by far eclipses the first. Previously, the Bangalore, India-based company invested $5 million to establish a small software hub in Shanghai, which currently employs 250 people. By comparison, the new facilities will give Infosys the capacity for 6,000 engineers. The company said that government and economic development officials were instrumental in laying the groundwork for the centers' construction. Infosys has more than 39,000 employees in more than 30 offices worldwide, including the United States where the company opened a business-consulting practice last year. internetnews.com
