Back in June I asked several of you about purchasing a house in the Tampa area and most comments were to wait. I had decided to wait until my wife found a cute house on a pond in Oldsmar...oh well...

Put half down and we move in September 1st. What has been surprising are the incidental costs. Our mortgage is cheap but it ends there. Taxes in Hillsbourough County are higher than we were paying in Du Page County, Illinois or in California (based on house, lot, etc...). Insurance was no were near as bad as expected and we opted for flood insurance. Not sure we need it but we're only 1/2 mile and 10 feet above datum from old tampa bay.

Prices are still relatively cheap in the Tampa area and we're satisfied with what we got.
