definition of cracker......somehow yours doesn't match the one I found at

netstate.com

The Cracker State: Along with Florida, Georgia has been called "The Cracker State" in earlier times. This Georgia nickname was a derogatory term that referred to immigrants, called "Crackers," from the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Crackers were considered less than ideal citizens.

A "cracker" doesn't have to be born in Florida.

I am florida born, born in palm beach, but 3 days later dad was transferred to germany and I spent most of my childhood there and hawaii - so I never considered myself a redneck or cowboy. I was called howlie a lot though. I would consider most of my moms brothers rednecks though. They all love to get thier hunting dogs every weekend and go chase deer through the woods. My cousins tell me I missed out living overseas, but I tell them about the legal drinking ages in germany when I was there and those cold winters where the beautiful european girls needed someone warm to cuddle too and don't understand how weak american beer and chasing deer in the woods would have been a better youth - hehe.

As a 5th generation Floridian I am glad you posted that web site. We always called ourselves crackers, termed as that web site said, from the cracking of the whip over maverick cattle. Somehow, in recent years, it was conveniently turned into cracking the whip over slaves (in order to promote an agenda I suppose).

BTW shades, the correct spelling is "hoali" (not that I'm a great 'speller').<G>
Some trivia...there are no double consonants in the Hawaiian language.
