You blame the sand storm which downed four Sea Stallion choppers on their way to rescue the hostages on Carter? If anyone is to blame for that it's a sabateur from the rightwing. But it was probably just bad weather. Sandstorms also hit our troops during the Iraq invasion you remember. They are hard to see coming. A lot of people forget Carter inherited the fall of the Shah and the Arab oil producers uprisings which led to the boycott. Carter also inherited huge Vietnam War debts which created soaring hyper-inflation. The Bush deficits being created now are even worse. So watch out 5 years from now. If you had been Carter what would you have done differently? Invade Iran and re-install the Shah? Occupy Iran so soon after we'd gotten out of Vietnam? Remember, in those days Iran was backed by the Soviet Union. And the Shah had become self-destructively corrupt and abusive to his own people. Also then, why didn't Reagan invade Iran instead of letting his people trade arms with them? Reagan went into Lebanon and got his ass handed to him. It's a very bad place to invade and occupy as Bush is finding out now.
