What's wrong with the return in buying the ADRs today 70 cents, tendering for notes which could be worth $1.10 in 2 years or switched for tradable securities with a 15% coupon - I've done a lot worse. Not sure of the tax implications but it seems to me that the increase in value from 70 cents to $1.10 could be considered a deferred capital gain while interest income could similarly be deferred until actually received.
