Organic foods is becoming a viable profitable business and appeals to all us baby boomers. Whole Foods Market got into this business but they made it cost effective by creating big supermarkets in affluent areas, in which there is as much conventional produce--but often gourmet, such as fiddlehead ferns--as well as organic. There is "natural" beef which simply doesn't have antibiotics, as well as truly organic. There is a ton of prepared gourmet food, desserts, chocolates etc. There are open salad bars hot and cold, and cafes in every one. The first one I saw was in Santa Fe and though the original "supermarket" Wild Oats still does well, WholeFoods definitely outpaces them. The second one I saw was here in the very expensive (to rent) new beautiful Time Warner Building. Its 50,000 square feet. From week one they exceeded their projections. Its a rarity in NYC because you have space in the aisles! It's also overpriced. The only reason I don't shop there regularly is that its a bit of a hike to get to for me, and the old standby Fairway, which is overcrowded with narrow aisles and a ton of incredible produce both conventional and organic also--a sort of NY tradition--is nearby. So yes, they are well managed. I think employees get stock options if they want. They are the only store I've ever been in where there is one employee just stationed at the checkout line to politely tell you where to go. There are inevitably long lines. I see your point about medium orlongterm, but I think I *will* make a lot of alerts this weekend (I just cannot notice stocks every day, can't pay enough attention, and so I missed SSTI's lows and I know I wuold've bought if I'd noticed how low it got, I only started to notice once it recovered--that would've made a nice double), and make o=ne for WFMI at abuot 125 or so. They remind me of Home Depot or Starbucks in earlier days, in terms of how they are filling and creating a need, and very customer friendly. What are you trading right now?
