Not in the beginning. During that 1980s war it was referred to universally as the 'Gulf War'.

Only after we had *more* wars in the region did people begin referring to the first Gulf War as the 'Iran/Iraq War'.

I thought my use of the term would be perfectly clear, because I called the next war I referred to 'Desert Storm' to clearly eliminate any possibility for confusion.

... As I pointed out, the original Gulf War caused over 1 million deaths.
