Like any nation is going to voluntarily become formed under the flag made by its occupiers... thats nuts... You know, I think that there may be a simple solution to all this Iraq mess, and one I gamed with when "Shock and Awe" was first gaming back at me. What I said at the time about the conquest of Iraq, on another board, was: "Oh yeah. It will take fifty years... but it is still L.A.M.E. (Los Angeles Middle East). In the end Iraq will become a province, the American resort of the Middle East." Hey! They have the merchandizing ability and we have the PR machine. Hey! We could team up and challenge the Emirates! Go head-to-head. Hey, Iraq! Wanna play in the "big leagues"? Become an American State and enjoy our kind of football? Look at the teams on your field and - Damn it you smart Mesopotamians, give those spoiled Kuwaitis a run for their money - make happy investment bankers 'round the world (and god knows we need their approval!) - unify the "needs of the people" under the banner of "we can do that, if they can!" ("they" is the Emirates in this case). There is so much America can do with this positive approach that it is amazing! Tourism, totally! Industry - look at the cities that are possible! Specialists needed... for all sorts of design projects! Full employment! Damn. There is a solution! However - I sent this idea to Cheney (making Iraq a protectorate, like any colony) after the war started, '03; in the form of "You have to invite them to join us, damn it, Dick" - but never heard back from him. No doubt some intern deleted the whole thing and he never saw it - not that he would "get" it. Too bad. Pretty obvious... If we invited regular Iraqi's to become American citizens - yes it would be a can of worms, but it would work. Allegiance to something higher than their tribe and immediate relations is the only thing that can break the back of old loyalty. What's more, everyone would benefit. The hard part is that we would have to open the door to Iraqi's in our country, and treat them like Americans... with all the risk of bombings. The best part is that by choosing to back Iraqis as Americans, we would win their allegiance and defeat the global movement. Eh? i.
