I think the "dumb Micks" were initially discriminated against as much as any other immigrant group. The had the huge advantage of looking like the people that were discriminating against them, and with time melded, certainly more easily than the blacks ever could or would.

As for the Mexicans and other hispanics, I see them melding fairly easily too. I've seen this in CA. The parents can't speak good english, but the kids can't speak good spanish. By the third of fourth generation, all ties with Mexico are lost. The grandchildren of immigrants are often more anti-immigrant than the local whites.

Is this not happening in Florida?
