Only occasionally these days does he have to do any of the actual painting himself, and he has great workers. I believe the young men who mow my lawn weekly are either college students or college grads, working in a family-owned business which has both commercial and residential accounts. Some of my neighbors have hired this company after they watched the workers mowing my lawn and saw that they were dressed in navy polo shirts and khaki pants and looked like they could speak English. My other neighbors hire firms which are equally as commercially successful, but their workforces do appear to be the type you couldn't give any instructions to in English. This seems to matter to some people, as I've had calls from some neighbors every single time I have any type of contractor working on my house, so I hear their complaints and wish lists. Actually had one neighbor, who I don't particularly like, call and say she wanted the phone number of my lawn guys because she didn't want to see her money leaving the U.S. and being sent to someone in Mexico or South America. (!!) People are getting sensitive about this immigration stuff. The Washington Post recently ran a story about about a private-school teenager in this area, whose mom told him he couldn't sit around all summer and needed to get a job. He got a bunch of friends together and they formed a business offering hauling services to people who needed to get rid of heavy furniture and other items without having to drive to the county or city dumpsites themselves. At first, he used his parents' vehicle, and named the business "College Hunks Hauling Junk". The kid has since graduated from a prestigious college and is now running the business full-time. Great story. Junk-hauling firms have been formed and written up in the newspapers here in the past. Seems to be a growing business.
