took off in hk for pudong, then not able to land in pudong

will do again today

pilots, once aloft, gets bonus money if try landing in off-ish weather, and so they always try

our pilot was an aussie with a sense of humor, and so it was tolerably entertaining

by the time it was our try, he came on the intercom,

"ladies and gentlemen, i will have tobe honest with you, 6 planes ahead of us just tried to land, and none succeeded; our turn, don't get your hopes up, here we go"

drop in altitude, gunning the engine, drop some more, zoom zoom, drop some more, 50 feet away landing, shake, rattle, tremble, shake, gunning the engine, and up we went to 39,000 feet

"ladies and gentlemen, 70 km wind shear at 50 ft altitude, consider ourselves lucky, we are going to hong kong"

the typhoon apparently was the worst in 100 years at level 12 or some such thing

my wife's comment once I got back was, "you should have cancelled the trip, it was just for face time (old college expression, meaning to see and be seen), what a waste of time; we took the coconut for some wave action at the beach, she loved the splashes in the face"

gave the gold coins to erita, she just kept looking at it, and unlike objects such as keys and phones, she would not let go :0)
