The Hemis would certainly come close to 200 mph - might need to clean up the aerodynamics a bit, like the Dodge Charger.

The Chevelle, being narrower and with less frontal area, would be more likely to hit 200.

I remember the Hemi costing another $ 900 - 1100 for the engine, which will get toward 3500-4000 with the heavy duty radiator, rear end, heavy suspension options, etc.

Now slowing down from those speeds was VERY interesting, especailly with drum brakes ;-)

Not to mention that you would be far beyond the capability of the tires to hold together for more than a few minutes.

No, muscle car back then wold hit anywhere near 200 mph stock. I had a couple of them then.
