Roberts, it's all about abortion. if being Catholic helps those to disqualify him based on being pro life. then it is another issue to help them. being Catholic has nothing to do with the issue only if it helps support them in keeping him off the court.

As the report states you got kerry, Kennedy, Leahy, out front supporting a woman's right to chose and they are Catholic.

81% of Americans self-identify as religious, 9% no religion. 56% Protestant, 25% Catholic, 2% Mormon, 2% Jewish, 6% other.

Among Christians with a self-expressed strong belief, 78% of Republicans have a strong religious belief, vs. 71% of Democrats.

There's a bigger split between conservatives and liberals -- self identified conservative Republicans and conservative/moderate Democrats pretty much equally say they have strong religious belief (82%/80%) but liberal Democrats only 52% say they have a strong religious belief.

Still, 52% is more than half.

I'd be interested in what percentage think that the other party is on the road to perdition. ;^)
