Quite a few docs have recently been released in the US, Japan and Russia about the end of the War in Asia. Of course it must have been a shock to the Japanese seeing the very party they trusted to help them negotiating a capitulation with the US, their last hope so to say, declaring War on them 2 days after Hiroshima. In violation of their the Japanese Russian treaty by the way. But I guess Ole Joe saw a golden opportunity of grabbing some land here. Including the 4 Northern Islands of Japanese traditional territory invaded in September 1945, weeks after the Japanese capitulation. Taro
