The story of the Columbia terrorists returning home to Ireland definitely fits in with something my husband said--that this whole peace agreement/announcement had been orchestrated and choreographed months ago between Sinn Fein and the Brits. That is why they started pulling out their troops and dismantling their guard towers immediately. The Brits are extremely relieved to be finishing up there. They are spending well over a billion dollars a year, and don't personally care for the Prods and especially their leaders, anyway. It was just an obligation they were sort of forced into. My husband's idea makes sense to me, because I suspect the IRA was forced into retirement by the bank heist. I think the authorities had them on it, and offered them a nice deal. Everyone gets a big retirement account, they wanted to make peace anyway because their leaders are in their late fifties. The McCarthy bar killing made it even more imperative to settle and go away with some semblance of idealism intact. And so in the fairly long time the whole thing was a secret, a lot of loose ends like the Columbia terrorists were wrapped up. At least that's what I think. What do you think?
