re:And not having a gun makes it harder for people to kill. In fact, in societies with strong gun control, there is much less homicide

So you really want confiscation, not gun control - that fans the registration fear very nicely. The gun violence numbers in england went up after banning guns, not down.

Yup. They went up from 2k to 3k incidents per year. And still the UK, a nation of sixty million, has much, much less gun violence than we do and their cops rarely carry guns. And we saw what happened to an innocent Brazilian when the UK cops do carry guns. Let me also add that if the US had only 4 times the number of incidents to reflect our proportionally larger population size, I would not worry about gun control. But that is no where near the truth inspite of the spin put out by the NRA and other gun advocacy groups:

"Working as an instrument of reconciliation, The United Methodist Church is among those religious communions calling for social policies and personal lifestyles that bring an end to senseless gun violence. The United States might well learn from the experience of other societies where stringent gun-control laws are enforced. The gun murder rate per 100,000 population in the United States is 100 times greater than in England and Wales, where strict gun laws prevail; it is 200 times greater than in Japan, where it is impossible for the public to secure handguns legally. In the United States, more than 30,000 men, women, and children are shot to death in homicides, suicides, and accidents annually. This does not take into account the approximately 250,000 people suffering injuries costing the society over $24 billion each year. Over three quarters of these medical expenses are paid for with public tax dollars that could be used for community development and to aid those in need.

Its disgusting and those who promote gun ownership are disgusting for promoting such violence. How can a nation as civilized as the US allow such violence in its streets? The answer, of course, is that some of us are not so civilized. Probably the same people who were all for invading Iraq.

Strong gun controls work over and over and over again. Unfortunately, here in the US, we have too many people with the gene for violence........can't live without their guns as well as the accompanying murder and mayhem.

re:Why not make it impossible to get a gun.

We have this pesky 2nd amendment and you would need to ban them worldwide. Drugs are banned, but they seem to be everywhere - your idea is cute on paper and short on reality.

The courts repeatedly have said your interpretation of the second amendment is false but that doesn't stop you from repeating that urban legend over and over again.

I don't shoot people - just paper and deer.

That's what they all say right after they just shot someone because the rage was so strong and the gun was just sitting there waiting to be shot.

Snap!
