And regarding ACLU Funding
The ACLU and its affiliated tax-exempt foundation receive substantial yearly support from the Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Field, Tides, Gill, Arcus, Horizons, and other foundations.

The Tides Center, which is administratively linked to but separate from the Tides Foundation is an institution that handles financial donations for progressive groups like the Institute for Global Communications. They make an effort to make greatest use of their finances within the limits of the law.

The Tides Center is classified a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS.

Along with other local foundations, The Heinz Endowments, of which Teresa Heinz Kerry is Chair, has contributed several million dollars to the Tides Center, mainly for community projects in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Heinz Endowments gave a total $230,000 to the Tides Foundation from 1994 to 1998, but has not given grants to the Tides Foundation since.

The Tides Center handles administrative functions such as payroll, benefits, insurance, and tax form 990 in exchange for a 9% fee, which is taken out of grant monies.

<b >The Tides Foundation established the Iraq Peace Fund, the Peace Strategies Fund and contributed US$376,000 to Indymedia.

The Americans For Gun Safety Foundation is a project of the Tides Center.

After the original November 25, 2003 broadcast of 24, Kiefer Sutherland broke character to address the issue of gun safety, most likely to waive Fox of liability in case someone attempted to recreate the Russian Roulette scenes. Sutherland gave a promotion for an organization called Americans For Gun Safety Foundation.

Several conservative news publications have accused Ms. Heinz Kerry of laundering donations to her husband's campaign, but these reports have since been inconclusive.

Carnegie Foundation can also refer to The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
The Carnegie Foundation is an organisation set up by, and named after, Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-American idealist and industrial magnate. It was Carnegie's generous gift of $1.5 million that made it possible to carry out plans for the construction of the Peace Palace in 1903, the year in which it was founded. The Foundation is the legal owner of the Peace Palace as the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which is based there along with its library, could not own the building under Dutch law.

The Rockefeller Foundation is a charitable organization that operates out of New York City. It was established by John D. Rockefeller to "promote the well-being of mankind throughout the world."

On May 14, 1913, New York Governor William Sulzer approved the charter for the foundation which soon after began operations.

Through the years the foundation has given assistance to public health, medical education, increasing food production, scientific advancement, social research, the arts, and other fields all over the world. When created in 1913, the Rockefeller Foundation was endowed in several installments that totaled about $250 million. The market value of the Rockefeller Foundation's endowment was $3.1 billion at year-end 2001.

The Foundation’s International Health Division expanded the work of the Sanitary Commission worldwide, working against various diseases in fifty-two countries on six continents and twenty-nine islands, bringing international recognition of the need for public health and environmental sanitation. Its early field research on hookworm, malaria, and yellow fever provided the basic techniques to control these diseases and established the pattern of modern public health services. The RF built and endowed the world's first School of Hygiene and Public Health, at The Johns Hopkins University, and then spent over $25 million in developing public health schools in the U.S. and in twenty-one foreign countries.

Its agricultural development program in Mexico led to what has been called the Green Revolution in the advancement of food production around the world; and the RF provided significant funding for the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines. Thousands of scientists and scholars from all over the world have received RF fellowships and scholarships for advanced study. The foundation helped to found the Social Science Research Council and has provided significant support for such organizations as the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Brookings Institution, the Council on Foreign Relations, and Russian Institute at Columbia University. In the arts the RF has helped establish or support the Stratford Shakespearean Festival in Ontario, Canada, and the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut; Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.; Karamu House in Cleveland; and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

The Ford Foundation is a US charitable foundation created to fund programs that promote democracy, reduce poverty and promote international understanding (see mission statement). It was founded in 1936 with grants from Henry Ford and his son Edsel Ford of the Ford Motor Company, and was headed by McGeorge Bundy from 1966 to 1979.

Certain radical critics such as former Binghamton University professor James Petras have criticized the Foundation for alleged links with the CIA. Petras has accused the Foundation of being a CIA front, citing former Foundation president Richard Bissell's relationship with DCI Allen Dulles and involvement with the Marshall Plan during the 1950s. Petras further denounces the Ford Foundation for funding what he terms "anti-leftist" human rights groups that "...do not participate in anti-globalization and anti-neoliberal mass actions" [1]

The Ford Foundation is a major donor to Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, a left-wing media watchdog group.
