I think you've got it backwards. The SOURCE of the information wasn't the reporters. That's just a dodge. Cooper says he learned "Wilson's wife was a CIA operative" from Rove. He may have told Rove that "Wilson's wife" was Valerie Wilson!

Cooper, who is with TIME, admitted that he told Rove who she was.

And it's more than reasonably clear that Rove already knew when he talked with Cooper.

This story is not one to get too far out ahead on. Guilt or innocence may well turn out to be complicated. What is, however, absolutely clear from all accounts, is that the WH went into a stark raving mad tizzy over all this, one that grew, no doubt, as the lack of wmd stuff became more apparent. So they went after Wilson. No one denies this. Unacceptable.

And, of course, Bush said he would cooperate. And none of us believed it. And we shouldn't have. And now his "truthfulness" statistics just keep dropping. Wonder why.

As I said, there are going to be some absolutely riveting books on all this, once the Bushies wander back to ol' Crawford on the Brazos.
