Chris, you forget that Andrea Mitchell (no Bush supporter, to say the least) has admitted that the entire Washington press corps knew that Plame was CIA. With that many people knowing it, what was probably not well known was that she was support to be "covert" despite the fact that she was working a desk job at Langley under her own name.
