I gather you've decided to change the argument. You started with the present composition of said group, in this case the Senate. Now you want to do a little history.

Well, let's take a shot. One constraint, however. I do recall there was one black Senator during reconstruction. From Mississippi. Had to be a Republican. And that Republican party was simply not related to the present one. Certainly not in Mississippi but not nationally as well. So, let's skip reconstruction. Those hardly meet the spirit of your initial point.

Then, there is, of course, Edward Brooks, who, if ever there was a Rockefeller Republican, he was. Hard for the present embodiment of the hard right Rep party to claim credit for him. So where's the third? Another reconstruction senator?
