Give him some credit...he's sampled at least 30-40 cops from the crowd who join in on weekend praire dog shootouts. LOL. I am not making this up...there are a class of rifles (and I know enough to be dangerous about guns) that are extremely precise ... in the midwest, on prairies, they have weekend gatherings near prairie dog colonies, and take fun shooting them from very far away. I saw it on one of the news magazines some time ago, can't remember which...thy have tailgate parties, there were ladies even out there with these guns, they'd scope a poor unsuspecting prairie dog poking its head from its burrow, from 1/2 mile away or something, and blow the poor thing to kingdom come with amazing "success" rate....the "fun" justified on the basis that prairie dogs are pests and vermin. Of course where they do this is in the middle of nowhere, where the poor doggies don't harm anyone. I wonder if they shoot when they shoot. <g> ted

The guns you're talking about are various forms of the .22 caliber in .223 (AR-15), .22 hornet or .22-250. The usual distance is from 200-400 yards, beyond that it's a prayer you can hit a target as small as a prairie dogs. A lot of prairie dogs are shot by ranchers where poisons have been banned and the holes created by these pests present a hazard to livestock (horses and cows step in the holes and break legs). It grew out of the legitimate need into a sport for city boys (gals) to test their long range "skills". There's even a guy with videos on the subject out of Northern California - Exploding Varmints varmintvideos.com Not exactly my taste in hunting, it's the lowest form of sport.
