In the '70's she quit a tenured job w/Chicago and opened a storefront school on the Chicago South side - tough turf! Parents had to pay, but when they couldn't serious students were accommodated anyway.In short order, her student's were excelling; grade schoolers familiar with Shakespeare, trig, etc. Google her if interested.

Because she has such success with ghetto students, TV and print gave her a brief moment of fame, then having writ.....

Your assumptions (here about rote methods wrt Marva) are - well, silly at best.

Again, the problem with the teaching industry are that they don't have incentives to learn from and build on the giants in their field.
