You are speaking to my bad conscience, I just never got into it but its on my hot list. Quite amazing actually but when I read most of the classics back in my early youth, Italy was pretty much down under to us in Sweden. We read the French, Russians and the Germans as well as of course the UK guys like Ben Johnson and Shakespeare and - the most advanced of us - US authors from Dos Passos, Steinbeck and up.

I read all the French classics but Stendahl was my absolute favorite and has always remained so. Besides his two main novels of course, his stories from Italy are quite amazing.

Anyway, Dante comes next...
