Know what you talk about and if I seem to be somewhat "sensitive" here the way you are, you should hear my wife!

Anyway. Most of the first class US chains like Sheraton and Hilton do have very good non smoking floors and rooms. The other secret tip is upper class BB, quite often wooden constructions, where smoking is strictly prohibited. Travel in Ireland, Sweden, Italy and Norway, they are all smoke free in restaurants and bars.

I agree with your proposal and personally know a lot of Americans thinking like you and actually totally avoiding travelling to Europe because of the smoking plague over there.

It's amazing indeed that the above countries don't advertise their clean air in the US because no doubt they could easily attract a lot of upper income class Americans, who just have no clue about the possibilities of travelling in Europe without getting smoked like a salmon. Lousy touristic marketing work IMO.

Italy is such a much better deal by any means.
