Let me toss in my two cents into this whole gun control debate. As someone who is fond of martial arts, I once wondered why there are permits allowing people to carry firearms in public, but no permits allowing people to carry martial arts weapons like nunchuks and swords.

And then it hit me. It's all about the gun culture here in America. And that's primarily what the NRA is defending, not the 2nd amendment, but the gun culture.

Now I'm all for erring on the side of more freedom, including the 2nd Amendment. But come on, what do we really need the automatic assault rifles for? For hunting those really aggressive deer? I once fired a pistol at a firing range. It was really easy, just point-n-pull for more than enough stopping power against any attacker. No elegance to it like the sword or the bow, just a convenient tool that indiscriminately serves either the responsible citizen or the crook.

So no, guns don't kill, but they can surely help, for better or for worse. Give everyone any gun that they want, and we'll definitely become a more violent society. Take away said guns, and then only the crooks will be left with them. Where should we compromise?
