I think to some degree or another our political system has always been manipulated by powerful international financial forces, especially since we became a Super Power after WW2. To some extent the whole Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb analogy is true, there's not a big difference between the two major parties as far as their core adherence to the needs of big business and international captial. I live under no illusions that a Democrat would usher in an era of refocusing on America for a change, Clinton certainly did not.

I would love to live under 4 or 8 years of a President and party that decided to reinvest in America. Wouldn't that be great! There is plenty that has been neglected in our country. For example, NYC has subway projects that have been on the drawing boards since the late 1920s that haven't been built due to lack of funds. Now, they are needed more than ever to allievate crowding and improve the quality of life in NYC. The biggest project would be a full subway line on the east side of Manhattan costing $16 Billion. Incredibly, over this same time period we've spent Trillions on the military and perhaps another Trillion on foreign aid.

Other parts of the country could use reinvestment as well. Our power grid is based on 1950s technology in much of the country, which is why we still have major blackouts. That is truly incredible. A first world country in the 21st Century has a 1950s era power grid?!?

The West could use water projects, perhaps massive desalinization plants, to ensure a stable water supply from the Pacific ocean over the next Century. Our coastline needs funding for protection. We don't invest enough in clean water projects to ensure a clean water supply. There is no shortage of needs in America that are neglected by the current spending priorities that seem stuck in the Cold War mentality.
