I always thought the offense of Moses in striking the rock to have water was a petty offense in that God punished him by not letting him enter the promise land. Big Deal. I thought. Boy was I wrong. Moses really missed the whole enchilada.

Where I was being misled was in that I was thinking that it was only a short time from Egypt that Moses did the wrong.

Actually He struck the rock as commanded by God the first time when they were 3 months out of Egypt. The second time when God asked him to speak to the rock they had already been in the wilderness 38 years . The offense of Moses happened only 2 years away from entry into the Promised Land. What a tragic turn of events. There is a lesson in this for us. However.

Look at it this way. Jesus said he was the living water and all who drank of Him would have eternal life and never thirst again..

Jesus was the rock. Jesus is the rock of our salvation. Sure. Steady. Never moving. Never a shadow of turning. The water that came out of the rock was eternal life.

How did we get eternal life. God let Christ be struck by the cross. By wood. So . Moses was allowed to strike Christ or the rock once. The second time all that was needed since we now have an eternal relationship with God in Christ is to speak to God or Christ. Or in the case of Moses the rock.

Moses disobeyed and not only struck the rock once but twice. paul said our sin and disobedience crucifies Christ all over again. Not something God is very happy about when it occurs.

God only gave up His son once....not twice .....therefore while I think, reasonable ...Moses missed the mark, and God got His attention.

He did not see the plan of salvation and the last days and the new relationship that all mankind will have with God in Christ.

Very sad.....How could he have been so far off. Could he not see the grace of God and the love for mankind. Why did Moses have to add to the judgement of God.....

Like all will arrive there some day. It is all by His grace and mercy. Whether Jacob. Moses. Issac. Abraham. Paul. Joseph.

All....

In Christ...Gregor.
