Exactly.
The RBOCs were granted the rights of way. It's not as if there was some kind of free market competition. For that, they have a duty not to "screw' people who are locked into their lines.

optics is being installed like crazy in this area. about twenty guys hit the development. they dig down about three feet several box holes for controllers . it looks like one for every two houses or four houses.
next they bring in the machine like a ground hog. it digs under neat , not tearing up streets. one guy operates the machine feeding line, another walks on the street or across the street or along the lawn and directs the line from a machine he holds in his hand.
optics laid to theses controllers and the 3x3' box is buried even with ground.
next step verizon will bring it into your house, install a new box on house and bring one line to your pc and modem/card and hook up everything for free. if you want a second line you pay to have line run from inside house to second pc.

A few people who have it tell me it is way better than cable. speeds are faster in uploads and constant. same with downloads. cable cannot compare with optic verizon.

also cable is not far below the ground maybe several inches. everytime someone digs in there yard they cut the cable. this will never happen with optic it is 3 feet down in ground.
