Hi Rob,
Is Quantum undergoing a slow death?

Maybe. But I think their Certance acquisition minimally extended their life and maximally will help to make them a competitive company again. But we'll only know that in the ripeness of time. One question is, is there room for two competing tape standards out there?

Is tape going the way of the floppy drive?

Not anytime soon. Too much stuff to archive and keep for years and years, stuff that you need for legal reasons but isn't necessary to access frequently. Also D2D2T systems are up and running, and, I think, are probably the best systems out there, in theory at least, for both backup and restore.

Anyone out there to comment?

Yes, I've still got this dormant site bookmarked. But as you probably know, I spend a lot more time on SNDK these days than DSS.

Regards,
Sam
