Well then, I would reccommend even the smallest of UPS for your CPU, DSL modem and or network routers. Sometime I get few second outages. If there is an extended outage, I have time to power down my systems. If you have a CRT and not a flat panel, I would not UPS the CRT. Whatever UPS you have will go longer without driving CRT monitors.

The UPS also does a great job of isolating computer stuff from line surges. But to me the best advantage is the immunity from few to several second power outages.

Unless you have a power source of your own, the DSL connection may be there, but there is no way to use it.

I rarely have power failures here because the power lines are underground, but I don't mind the ones I experience as much as I used to because now I have something to amuse myself--the internet. When the power goes out I boot up my laptop. Don't even bother with turning on my Y2K lantern first because the computer puts out enough light for me not to trip over anything. It's nice to have that option available.
