Just came in on this conversation. I am having an almost similar problem. When I leave my computer on overnight, which I usually do, the next morning my internet connection icon has an x thru it with a mouse over message that,"a cable is unplugged." I have to reboot and everything is well unless I leave the computer idle for a few hours.

My research indicates that SP2 has a bug causing this. I installed the MS hot fix and it didn't seem to help. There is a fix going into the registry, but I haven't had the time or courage to try it yet, as I hate messing with the registry.

As stock bull suggested, you can uninstall Zone Alarm...but I'd shut it down and see what happens first. Not sure an uninstall is necessary.

You can shutdown Zone Alarm by right clicking the icon in the lower right corner by the clock and clicking on shutdown Zone Alarm. That might be easier?
