Yes, I remember that well. And it wasn't "religious people," it was certain religious people. You may not have noticed but I don't use that expression any more.

I used "brainwashed" because that's the word Michael used when he started this discussion. To avoid confusion, although it may not work, I generally try to use the words that are already on the table. It's one of the basic elements of collaborative discussion. As I thought I made clear, it's not my choice of word. I really don't have a better word, though, because despite years of effort I haven't gotten to the essence of the phenomenon so I don't know how to crisply characterize it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. A dictionary wouldn't help. (I think that most people, if they refer to it at all, refer to it as simply "stupid," but I'm not sure that's it.)
