Ten,

Good post, and true.

re: Of course, the real problem is ignorance and apathy within the voting public.

I agree with ignorance, I don't agree with apathy (though both are connected).

I've been around 55+ years, and things have really changed. It's hard to describe... but most of the family people I know don't have time to think, to read the paper, to study the issues, to really care. Both father and mother work 40 hours at least (when I was younger usually only one parent worked). Then there are all these "organized" kid activities (kids in my day made their own activities).

Are we richer today than we were 30 years ago, when a guy who worked in a factory could support a family of 5, nice house, without his wife working? Are we richer today when the majority of folks don't vote... and those that do vote are just responding to TV ad political (BS) marketing? Are we richer when nobody is holding OUR elected officials to task for a criminal energy bill and dysfunctional transportation bill?

The last poll I saw said more than 34% of people called themselves independents, not Dems or Reps.

Anybody with any sense knows this isn't about partisan politics, it's about getting the government to represent the people again. The partisan part is the pols game to distract us. Let's get our representative government back, then we can deal with our partisan differences in a civilized manner, as we've done in this country for generations.
