It is a difficult discipline to enforce. pbase.com

I went on a small craft to photograph Bread during the start of a race. I am now called the First Mate and the current Skipper was sailing Bread. On bread only one person ignored the life jacket rule. This was the oldest daughter of the skipper who was an adult by age and a guest.

Having been Skipper with my own children, I know how difficult certain relationships are. Some time after that sail I spoke with the daughter privately and quietly. She had seen the pictures on-line. I explained her not wearing a life vest made her father's job very difficult. I also explained it made her father look bad to all other Skippers. She was not upset and understood. It takes time and persistance to achieve discipline.
